Hit That Line, Hit That Line . . . | Little Rock Child Photographer

We are huge college football fans in my house. And, by huge, I mean GINORMOUS! My oldest daughter could sing the Razorback Fight Song by the time she was 3. I start daydreaming about the a first weekend in September in February. (Yes, I realize that makes me part boy.) After a long summer of Cardinals baseball games (I mean, seriously, could they be any more disappointing??), last weekend, it finally arrived . . . FOOTBALL SEASON!

My girls and I loaded up, complete with Razorback window flags, and traveled to Fayetteville with my dad to watch the Razorbacks’ first football game of the season last Saturday. Known simply as the Hill, Fayetteville is one of those little gems of a town . . . quirky and funky to the core and set in the beautiful Boston Mountains of northwest Arkansas. I love it there when it’s not football season, and on game day, it’s even better. And, watching your dad take your youngest daughter to her first Fayetteville game was beyond amazing.

(Although, I must admit that I was a little dismayed to discover that the 3yo’s favorite part of the game was getting a high-five from a member of the marching band. No linebacker love from her.)

Expectations are high on the Hill this season. The Hogs got off on the right foot with a pounding of Tennessee Tech. Win or lose, here’s to the rest of the season. And, thanks, Dad, for the wonderful memories!

We Are A Family | Little Rock Portrait Photographer

There were no tears for this momma when school started this year. Both of my girls are old pros at the starting school game. In fact, the 7yo could not wait for school to resume. She actually had a calendar counting down the days until the first day. (Yep, she’s my little nerd.) Even the 4yo was tired of hanging out with me, constantly asking when she was going to get to play on the playground with her friends again. So, drop-off that first morning was uneventful.

I came home to a quiet house. I had big plans. Just me and my computer. I was going to get so much work done with no one nagging me to do something else. But, as excited as I was for everyone to return to school, too, I must admit that by mid-afternoon I was a tad lonely. No one had asked me to read them a book. No one had asked me to turn on a light. No one needed me to make them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. No one had told me they loved me.

Then, the 4yo came home with this.

And, the waterworks started.

Coolest. Wedding. Ever. | Little Rock Portrait Photographer

Hi. My name is Heather. Most of you probably don’t remember me, but I’m the photographer who used to post on this blog. For the last month or so, I’ve been MIA. After a long, hot summer, I finally succumbed to the unrelenting will of my two home-all-summer-with-nothing-to-do kids and had to take a break from the blog to attend to their needs. But, now school’s back in session (thank God!), and I’m back on the blog! (And, yes, for all of you Photography 101 junkies, a new lesson will appear this week! Woot!)

With this new re-start of the blog, I’m also going to be unveiling some changes around here. I’m in the process of doing a little rebranding, so be on the lookout for a new look and new services. If you haven’t done so already, now is a GREAT time to subscribe to the blog!! One small change has already taken place on the blog . . . if anyone can tell me what it is, there’s a prize. Leave a comment, and the first person to guess right will get a $20 HOP gift card!

Another change you might have noticed already is that my foray into wedding photography has come to an end (sorry, that’s not the prize-winning change). But don’t fret . . . this is no time for tears! While I have enjoyed all of the wedding clients I took on this year, doing it made me realize that what I really love to do is photograph kids and families. So, from here on out, that’s what I’m going to spend my time doing. That’s the motto I try to live by after all: do what brings you the most joy.

That being said, I still love looking at other photographers’ wedding work, and last week I came across the coolest wedding ever. Seriously, if I could do my wedding all over again, I would totally copy this!

Are you kidding me?!?!? How cute is this . . . aqua chucks on the bride and bridesmaids, dum dum boutonnieres, cupcakes, candy, paper crowns all around! I am so in love! This wedding makes me so sad about my own wedding. At the time, I thought it was so chic and fashionable . . . all of us in our sleek black, white, and red. Now, I realize it was just drab and ordinary. How I would have loved to have made it as fun and memorable . . . and utterly personal . . . as this!!

Where Have I Been? | Jonesboro Child Photographer

You can all exhale now. I’m not dead. I haven’t even run off to an exotic country to lay on the beach and drink pina coladas all day (although I do dream about doing that daily). I’ve just been really, really busy! Work has had me traveling for the better part of the last 4 weeks. School starts this week, so, hopefully, I’ll have everything (including Photography 101) back up and running as normal next week.

In the meantime, I wanted to share one of the projects that I have been working on: the Ben Sherman Celebrity Classic, a charity golf tournament dreamed up by 8-year-old Ben Sherman. Ben was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia on August 11, 2008. He has spent the last 2 years undergoing treatment at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. He wanted to give something back to his fellow patients, so he recruited a few celebrities . . . namely Jim McMahon (former Chicago Bears quarterback) and Javy Lopez (former Atlanta Braves catcher) . . . to help him. Through Ben’s efforts, almost $32,000 was raised for the kids at St. Jude’s. I was so honored to have been asked to participate. A full post with more pictures from the event will be coming soon.

Way to go, Ben! You are A-MAZING, and I am so proud to know you!!
